STANDARD ITEMS (i.e. not period patterns)

  'Very Good' Items will not have any obvious flaws but there may be some very light wear from very occasional use:

·         No chips or cracks

·         Very light wear resulting from very occasional use, for example a few scratches or some very light wear to the gilding

·         Manufacturing faults - tiny blemishes which are only noticeable on close inspection, such as small dimples or a tiny piece of grit under glaze.

·         A special run mark - this is a back stamp mark added during production to indicate that the item was part of a special run and usually site below the glaze. It is not a seconds mark.

'GoodItems may have a few minor flaws and moderate wear from almost daily use:

·         No chips or cracks

·         Surface scratches - up to half of the surface may be lightly scratched or there may be a few deep scratches

·         Some wear to glaze, gilding or pattern in one or two areas

·         Slight pattern faults

·         Manufacturing faults - minor but noticeable blemishes, such as small dimples or tiny pieces of grit under glaze

·         Post-production seconds marks, usually a strike through the backstamp but the item appears almost perfect.

PERIOD AND COLLECTABLE ITEMS

'Very Good'   - Items will not have any obvious flaws but there may be some very light wear from occasional use:

·         No chips or cracks

·         Surface scratches - up to ⅓ of surface may be lightly scratched or there may be a few deep scratches

·         Wear to glaze, gilding or pattern in one or two areas

·         Pre-Production special run and post production seconds marks

·         Manufacturing faults consistent with the date of manufacture including pitting, lumps in glaze, grit under the glaze, rough edge conditions or an imperfect or misaligned pattern.         

'Good'   - Items may have a few minor flaws and moderate wear from almost daily use:

·         No chips or cracks

·         Noticeable flaws consistent with the date of manufacture, including pitting, lumps in glaze, grit under the glaze, rough edge conditions or an imperfect or misaligned pattern

·         Surface scratching - up to ⅔ of surface may be lightly scratched or there may be one or two deep scratches

·         Noticeable wear - pattern fading, glaze wear or fine crazing

·         Pre-Production special run or post production seconds marks
